GAMUD Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Udine (Udine Gallery of Modern Art)

Founded in 1895 as the Fondazione Artistica Marangoni from the 1872 trust of Antonio Marangoni, businessman and collector, with the aim of acquiring the works of young artists to bring together a collection of contemporary art. Today the Gallery boasts a collection of over 4000 works of art from paintings and drawings to sculpture, from the mid 1800s up until today. GAMUD - Galleria d'Arte Moderna di UdineGAMUD also preserves other unusual collections such as the collection of the Italian art from the 1900s donated by Maria Luisa Astaldi, (De Chirico, Savino, Severini, Sironi; Campigli, Pirandello...) the collection comprised of donations made by American artists in solidarity  after the 1976 earthquake (De Kooning, Andre) and the international collection of prints donated by Fabio Mauroner.

Opera di Afro Basaldella

The galleries show, in chronological order, the works of great Italian masters from the end of the 1800s (Gemito, Mancini, Nomellini, Chini, Carena), non- Italians (Sorolla y Bastida) with a particular attention to the Venetian school (the Ciardis, Tito, Brass, Nono, Milesi). Continuing on there are the masters of the 1900s (Modigliani, Martini, Mafai, Cagli, Casorati, Guidi, Viani,Vedova, Santomaso, etc.), along with the personalities of  Pellis, Crali, and the young artists of the “Scuola Friulana d'Avanguardia” (Modotto, Filipponi, Grassi) with Pizzinato, Zigaina and Alviani that complete the artistic panorama of art in Friuli during the 20th century

Opera di Dino Basaldella

A special place is given in the permanent exhibition space for the sculpture and paintings of the Baldasella brothers Dino, Mirko and Afro.

The Astaldi collection, donated by Maria Luisa and Sante Astaldi in 1983 to the city by bequest, counts 193 works of art and takes a privileged gaze at Italian art from the 1920s to the 1960s, through pieces that were chosen with confidence from the most representative leaders of the scene.  Most of the works in the collection were from Rome and reflect the Astaldi’s cultural commitment and interest in the contemporary scene. Maria Luisa also was known for founding Ulisse, a magazine of international culture in 1947. From Severini to Santomaso, through Sironi, Rosai, Morandi, Campigli, Arturo Martini, Scipione, Mafai, Pirandello, Guttuso etc. – the art of the 20th century is amply documented, with particular attention given to the Metaphysical movement with six works by De Chirico and fifteen by Savinio.
Over time, the area of contemporary art has come to include the applied arts, comics and design (donation of the Electrolux Zanussi archive) and a section in architectural plans that is absolutely unique and includes the donations of the complete archives of D'Aronco, Aloisio, Zanini ,etc.
To promote this wealth of resources and heritage, the City of Udine has chosen the Gallerie del Progetto di Palazzo Morpurgo  to house the archives of design and architecture and to host travelling exhibitions.

The museum is temporarily closed to the public.
